Time to start planning your engagement session! This is a great chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, see how I work, and, most importantly, have a fun, relaxed time together before the big day. If you’re wondering how to make the most of it, here are a few tips to help you out!

Choosing a location

Don’t stress too much about choosing the ‘perfect’ location for your engagement session—it’s all about capturing your connection. If you’d like to include multiple locations, that’s totally doable! The best engagement sessions feel like a fun date night, with me as your personal paparazzi.

Where do you and your partner love spending time together? Maybe somewhere green, by the beach, or strolling through a nearby city? You could visit a bar, have a cozy cooking date at home, or do something completely unique to you. Your engagement session should reflect your relationship—so do what feels right for you, not just what everyone else is doing!

Avoid matching with each other.

I know coordinating outfits used to be the thing, but it’s 2025—time to mix it up! Instead of wearing the exact same colors, go for complementary or similar tones. That way, you’ll still have a cohesive look without it feeling like a throwback to those old-school family portraits.

Solid colors or patterns are great! ....but not for both.

If one of you is wearing a bold pattern, the other should stick to a solid color to keep things balanced. Too many patterns can clash and take attention away from what really matters—you two! If you both love patterns, just keep them subtle so they don’t compete.

Don't be afraid to mix up outfits for different locations!

I love when outfits contrast with the setting—it makes your photos feel even more dynamic. That’s one of the reasons my engagement sessions are two hours. It gives you plenty of time to travel and change outfits without feeling rushed. A dressier look works great in a natural setting with lots of greenery, while a more casual outfit fits right in with an urban backdrop. The goal is to have one of each, and we’ll figure out which outfit works best for each location together!

Have Fun!

More than anything, this session is about us getting to know each other and capturing some fun, genuine moments. It’s totally normal to worry about what to wear or feel a little nervous about posing, but don’t stress—I’ve got you. I always remind my couples that I have a very big memory card, so not every shot has to be perfect. You’ll only see the best of the best from your session. Just be yourself, and I’ll handle the rest. This is going to be a great time!
